Portraits of Home 1: Natalie Fasheh

Image from iOS (4).png

Natalie Fasheh is a Palestinian-Jordanian emerging choral practitioner and community-engaged artist. Her composition, “For Freedom,” is inspired by the current turmoil and rising up for human rights; from the Levant region, to Turtle Island, and Globally. It will feature Levantine vocalists Shireen Abu-Khader, Raneem Barakat, and Natalie, alongside the Amadeus Choir.

About her process, she says, “I am a singer first and foremost, and in these times, when I sing, the space created between me, my spirit, and the universe is coveted. In a moment of despair, this melody flowed out; an anthem. It started off as I explored intersections of oppression between myself as a Palestinian and settler, and the Indigenous peoples here. Within that specific exploration was also a worldly contemplation of human interconnectedness in local and global struggles. Our human efforts to survive and strive for freedom, in times of trauma and oppression because of any aspect of our identities. Regardless of whether we stay or flee dangers to different lands, and beyond our sense of geography and individual identities.

The composition is for all of us marginalized people who seek freedom.”

The video will premiere on November 10, 2021 and is produced by Coffeeshop Creative.
